UCDA Workshop: Printmaking: Photocopier Transfer and Monotype
Master printer and shop manager Chris Flynn will lead this hands-on workshop in Photocopier Transfer and Monotype methods.

This UCDA workshop will explore the subtleties of the photocopier transfer process and the monotype process using an etching press and a barren or non-press printing technique. Simple registration techniques will be used. This workshop will enable participants to incorporate these processes into their own design work or apply these techniques to a classroom situation. Combining oil-based inks and water-based mediums in photocopier transfer yields exciting results, such as the layering of images and complex color relationships. Drawn or scanned images are transferred to paper via a Xerox machine then enlarged and inked. After the demonstration, registrants will have the opportunity to explore this method using their own imagery.
A few weeks prior to the workshop attendees will be sent instruction on selecting, preparing, and printing out of images in Photoshop to bring with them. Additional images may also be brought on a USB flash drive the day of the workshop to be printed on site.

LOCATION
The Center for Book, Paper and Print at Columbia College Chicago is dedicated to the research, teaching and promotion of the interdisciplinary practices that support the book arts, hand paper making and print as contemporary art media. The center has a fine art press, bindery, letterpress and paper making studio, research facility, and project space that provide a work environment for students, faculty and the community to explore contemporary art practices.
A cultural resource, the center supports curriculum through lectures, workshops, artist residencies, the Journal of Artists Books (JAB) publication and internships. The center’s activities are enhanced by providing time and space for emerging and established artists to work in the center’s various studios. Their creative output, presence, and interaction with students, faculty, and staff enhance the college’s progressive educational curriculum.
The workshop will take place in the Printmaking Studio located at 623 S. Wabash, Room 201, Chicago, Illinois.
