The Office of Strategic Communication at The University of Iowa seeks an Art Director to provide creative leadership for institutional marketing initiatives, including projects and campaigns, within the Office of Strategic Communication (OSC). These projects include print, web, digital and out-of-home advertising as well. This position is intended to help support the university's marketing and branding initiatives and contribute to reputation building efforts. The qualified candidate will lead the OSC design team; plan, coordinate and manage creative projects and campaigns, and develop and execute creative concepts. The Art Director's project areas will encompass recruitment marketing, public relations, brand and institutional identity, university outreach, advancement and alumni communications.

Responsibilities include working as a leader on the Office of Strategic Communication creative team and campus design community to ensure that all design content elevates the University of Iowa brand; creating design content for digital, multimedia and print applications for marketing purposes across a range of platforms; employing the University's graphic standards, techniques, methods and style guides and developing standards for the institution, as needed; identifying client/partner and project needs, and proposing creative strategies; translating strategy into action through effective project management and creative direction; working productively as part of a creative and visual team including videographers, photographers, web developers, designers and writing professionals; effectively coordinating and managing OSC design projects to successful completion and providing effective supervision, coaching and support to the design team including professional and student design staff.
Successful candidates will be able to write and work from creative briefs, communicate well with clients, administrators, students and vendors alike, and be comfortable developing concepts based on very specific detailed requirements or with limited information.
Salary is $62,000 to commensurate. Application deadline is September 19, 2016, and screening will begin immediately. Projected start date is November 14, 2016.
