Description:
The Department of Visual Arts & Music at Columbia College invites applications for a full-time Visiting Instructor or Visiting Assistant Professor (depending on qualifications) in Art for the Fall 2024 semester. The appointment begins in August 2024 and ends in December 2024. We are looking for a candidate with expertise in Graphic Design and Illustration.
 
Teaching and some service work will be required. Specific courses offered during this one-semester appointment include Graphic Design I, Graphic Design II/III (a stacked course), and Illustration. Master syllabi and course materials will be provided. Service work will include attending department meetings and events (may require occasional evening and/or weekend commitments) and mentoring 1-2 senior design students with their capstone projects.
 
Columbia College is known for its small class sizes, which enrich teaching and mentoring experiences. The successful candidate will join faculty and staff committed to innovative, student-centered pedagogy at a liberal arts and sciences teaching institution located in Columbia, MO, one of America's most livable small cities. The Department of Visual Arts and Music currently has eight other full-time faculty. This position will support students pursuing degrees in the BA in Graphic Design, BA in Art, and the Bachelor of Fine Arts.
 
Qualifications:
At least a Masters in Graphic Design (or closely related field) is required. Prior higher education teaching experience is preferred. The position requires an ability to effectively teach undergraduate courses, a commitment to student-centered learning, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a willingness to use various instructional technologies.
