  • Overview:
    The Senior Visual Designer is responsible for producing persuasive visual designs in support of UCSF’s fundraising efforts, acting as a steward of the UCSF brand, and evolving the visual impact of UCSF: The Campaign, a $5 billion fundraising effort to solve some of the world’s most intractable health challenges. As a member of the Advancement Communications team within University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR), the Senior Visual Designer plays a significant role in shaping fundraising presentations and reports, high-end event collateral, high visibility websites and user interfaces, UCSF Magazine, mobile-aware email designs, and interactive digital projects. The position will also help create and refine a system of branded templates, provide strategic consulting, and take initiative to propose and implement strategies to improve asset management, workflow and process. The position requires an individual who is eager to develop subject matter expertise, strives to create evocative visual experiences, and can balance moving creative concepts forward while incorporating feedback from multiple stakeholders. A successful candidate will have a strong portfolio showing the ability to steer creative visions from concept to delivery within complex organizations. Working under the guidance of the Design Director, the position will also oversee the work of freelance designers, art direct photo shoots, and be part of a creative team dedicated to meaningful, exceptional work.

Job Requirements

  • Experience:

    At least five years’ experience working in design roles at an agency or agency-style environment

  • Job Description:

    Advanced knowledge of design and communications concepts
    Advanced knowledge of production processes for a variety of media and knowledge of vendor requirements for a variety of products
    Advanced design, creative and artistic skills.
    Advanced skills to devise broad design ideas, present them to clients, and produce results on time and within budget
    Advanced interpersonal communications skills, including active listening skills and skills to work effectively within teams and to effectively provide advanced design advice and consultation to clients on all aspects of visual communications
    Critical thinking skills, advanced organizational skills and proactive problem-solving/problem resolution skills
    Familiarity with UCSF, including its vision, mission, goals, and objectives (pref)
    Experience working in fundraising communications (pref)
    Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and tools for creating user interfaces and digital experiences (InVision, Sketch) (pref)
    Video and multimedia creation and editing skills (pref)

  • Computer Skills:

    Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver)
    Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
    InVision, Sketch, or similar

  • Education Required:

    Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
