PRINT JUDGES

PAM FOGG
Pamela Fogg (above left) guides the overall visual tone of communications coming out of Middlebury. She establishes the conceptual and stylistic direction for a variety of projects ranging from admissions recruitment materials to fundraising and web content. She oversees a staff of in-house designers and videographers and orchestrates the contributions of several freelance designers, videographers, photographers and illustrators. Pam is the chief designer for the award winning Middlebury Magazine.
 
Since she began working in higher education, she has been involved with UCDA. She co-chaired 2003 and 2004 UCDA Design Summits, 2005-2008 served on the board of directors and executive committee, created and chaired a committee on sustainability and in 2013 and 2014 co-chaired the annual UCDA Design Conferences. Pam is also a big fan and member of the Society of Publication Designers (SPD) and served on the board of AIGA Vermont.
 
Pamela has worked in the field of graphic design for 30 years. She received her B.F.A. in advertising and design from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Prior to her arrival at Middlebury, Pam was design director at South Street Seaport Museum and senior designer at Rizzoli Publications, both in New York City.

DOMENICA GENOVESE
Domenica Genovese (above center) is a partner at Greatest Creative Factor, a firm that specializes in marketing and design for education. She directs the creative product at GCF, ensuring that conceptual approaches match marketing strategies. Domenica’s work has been recognized by organizations and associations such as the AIGA, Communications ArtsPrintGraphis, Graphis Brochure, Graphis Logo, Graphis Poster, CASE, UCDA, and the Society for Publication Designers. Domenica is a graduate of the Accademia di Belle Arti in Perugia, Italy. She is a founding board member of the Baltimore Chapter of the AIGA and taught for many years in the Graduate Program of Communication Design, University of Baltimore.

STEPHANIE SIMKIN
Stephanie Simkin (above right) is the owner and creative director of Stone + Steel Creative, a brand strategy and graphic design studio dedicated to helping nonprofit organizations, passion-driven businesses, and fundraising events improve awareness, garner support and strengthen community presence through thoughtful visual identity and strategic messaging. Stephanie leads branding initiatives, develops campaigns, and collaborates with clients to focus brands and strengthen community presence. She is a branding and design consultant with the Center for Nonprofit Management. Passionate about supporting the Nashville community, Stephanie has held previous roles on the AIGA Nashville board and Tomorrow Fund of the Community Foundation. Currently, she serves on the Next Chapter Society committee—a community group that serves the Nashville Public Library Foundation. 

 

DIGITAL JUDGES

RICK BAILEY
Rick Bailey (above left) is principal of RHB, a leading marketing and design consultancy serving higher education. The firm’s portfolio includes more than 125 colleges and universities. Since 1991, RHB has earned numerous awards including AAF Addys, Tellys, UCDA, CASE, AMA, Higher Ed Marketing, and Communicator Awards.

 Rick brings nearly 40 years of professional experience and expertise in not-for-profit marketing and design, including work in fundraising, public relations, recruitment and admissions and marketing communications. He began his career at his alma mater, Spring Arbor University, while completing graduate courses in higher-education administration at Michigan State University. He served on the staff of Imprint, Inc., for eight years before launching his own firm in 1991. As principal of RHB, Rick served as creative director until 2005. He is a frequent conference speaker at regional and national meetings of educational and design organizations and taught for 13 years as an adjunct professor of marketing at the University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business. His first book, Coherence: How Telling the Truth Will Advance Your Cause (and Save the World), recently took the top prize in the National Indie Excellence Book Awards’ Business category.

TINA COLEMAN
Tina Coleman (above center) is the Director of University Web and Design at William & Mary. She has worked in higher education for nearly 30 years. In her role at William & Mary, she provides leadership and direction for the university’s print and digital presence including traditional websites, microsites, web applications and social networks. Her office oversees the visual identity efforts of the university, providing guidance to campus entities on policies and best practices in the use of university marks in all forms of communications. Tina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a Concentration in Management from Christopher Newport University.

ROBERT J. "RJ" THOMPSON
RJ Thompson (above right), MFA is a practicing graphic designer, graphic design educator, and entrepreneur currently teaching graphic, web, and interactive design and design entrepreneurship at Youngstown State University.

His current research interests primarily focus on the design, construction, and implementation of open-sourced based learning management systems for visual learners, mobile app development for education, economic development through investment in design entrepreneurship, and creating brand identities for cities and neighborhoods. 

RJ has presented on various design topics at the UCDA Design Education Summit, Southeastern College Art Conference, Design Principles and Practices, Design Incubation Colloquium, AIGA Design Education Conference, and more. He has also participated as a peer reviewer for conferences, publications, and competitions. In 2015, he and a few of his peers at Youngstown State University were one of several recipients of the National Endowment for the Arts “Our Town” grant, valued at $100,000, which seeks to implement creative placemaking projects that help to transform communities into lively, beautiful, and resilient places with the arts at their core.

He is a 2004 graduate of the International Academy of Design and Technology, where he secured an Associate Degree in Specialized Technology in Visual Communications, and is also a 2007 graduate of California University of Pennsylvania, securing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Graphic Design. RJ received his Master of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2011.
