UCDA Statement on COVID-19 (Updated on March 16, 2020)

March 16, 2020

UCDA is committed to the health and well-being of our members, who value a supportive community of creative professionals. In normal circumstances, our members are eager to meet with their peers to exchange ideas, learn from each other, and advocate for designers’ and educators’ roles within their institution—an eagerness that some are now balancing with concerns about the COVID-19 virus.

UCDA continues to monitor the rapidly changing situation related to COVID-19. As of March 16, 2020, UCDA has cancelled all in-person events through May 31, 2020.

The decision to cancel was not an easy one and, in fact, UCDA tried everything in its power to move forward with the events as planned. However, circumstances beyond anyone’s control led to the difficult decision. Many factors were being considered:

  • the concern for the overall health and safety of our members/attendees
  • rapidly changing situation domestically
  • attendees having to cancel plans because of college-imposed travel restrictions
  • many communication professionals need to remain on campus to help manage communications about campus closures
  • many educators having to deal with extended spring breaks, new class schedules, or ways of conducting classes
  • being fiscally responsible in dealing with contracts with the hotel and existing partners

The UCDA board of directors is committed to exploring alternative programming options, and are working toward this goal. Stay tuned.

These are challenging times for all of us. We thank for your support, patience, and understanding!
