Barbara Esmark's Biography

A UCDA member since 1980, Barbara has been practicing and promoting fine art and design since her teenage years in Philadelphia. She was the first full time graphic designer for the State University of New York at New Paltz, where a supportive and innovative Vice President informed her of UCDA and provided resources for Esmark to participate fully in the organization. She was board member at large, competition chair, secretary, vice president, president and, chair of the board. She co-designed (with Larry Pearce) one of the two existing design annuals for UCDA.

Esmark directed the publications, printing and public relations department for the SUNY system at the Chancellor's Office and then moved fully into advancement as the Director of Development for the School of Communication Arts at California State University, Fullerton, and later its Associate Vice President for Advancement. While at Fullerton she helped facilitate the 2000 design competition for UCDA.

Barbara's concern and programming efforts for UCDA have focused on promoting the role of the designer in the life of the institution and generating administration support to enhance the morale and creativity of the designers in their environments. Barbara served on the UCDA Foundation Advisory Board and made a planned gift in memory of a former UCDA colleague and friend, John A. Krider.
