Create & Capture Workshops

Jun 10 - Jun 11, 2022

Matthew Lester Photography (The Candy Factory) and Typothecary Letterpress Studio

Lancaster, Pennsylvania

End the academic year with an immersive experience that will ignite your creative spark and provide the hands-on programming sure to enhance your professional career and stretch your creative mindset. The Create & Capture Workshops held in Lancaster, Pennsylvania will encompass two day-long workshops focused on printmaking and digital photography.

Megan Zettlemoyer, printmaker, and owner of Typothecary Letterpress, will provide hands-on printing and inking techniques—playing with type, texture, and patterns on a Vandercook Proof Press. Higher education photographer Matthew Lester will lead attendees through creative photography, editing, and capturing everyday environments through the lens in new and different ways. Both workshops are designed to be collaborative, creative experiences and while design skills are an advantage, it’s your creative conceptualizing that will make for inspiring and energizing days together. Creatives with little (or no!) experience using these art forms are welcome. And who knows, you might even leave Lancaster with a beautiful piece of artwork to hang in your home or office!

With options to register for just one or both workshops, you’ll spend time in unique studio spaces and enjoy the opportunity to explore an urban center rich in heritage, history, shopping, art, and culture. One of the oldest inland towns in the United States with over 60,000 residents, the City of Lancaster is located within driving distance of Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York.

Megan graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC. After a few years of in-house design jobs and agency life, she set out to find something more fulfilling. After a visit to the Heritage Press Museum in Lancaster, PA, and a lot of volunteer hours paired with classes up and down the east coast, she began Typothecary Letterpress in 2011 to satisfy her hands-on, creative desires. She continues to watch it grow steadily over the last ten years. With the introduction of the Lancaster Print Crawl in 2017, she has shared the art of letterpress with a wider audience of both local residents and visitors from Baltimore, DC, New York, and Philadelphia. She continues to do design work as well as teach at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology in Lancaster.
