Brenau University Office of Communications & Publications seeks an experienced, creative photo/video journalist to serve as the primary university photographer and digital asset manager for a wide range of internal and external media.

The ideal candidate will have a journalist's "nose for news" and tenacity for gathering and visually presenting material quickly and accurately. The job requires routine interaction with students, faculty, staff and administrators on all campuses in Georgia and north Florida, as well as with alumni, trustees and other university stakeholders as they cover the university virtually as a beat reporter. The Multimedia Photographer/ Editor must think strategically and visually within the framework of the Brenau mission and strategic plan to determine the best, most appealing vehicles for storytelling to various audiences and constituencies. The photographic work will appear throughout the university publications, including the award-winning Brenau Window magazine, high production value recruiting and fundraising publications, print and video advertising and online.

There is no pigeonhole here: This position allows you to grow professionally and creatively and make it your own. The Brenau Multimedia Photographer/Editor partners with a close-knit team of other creative professionals, including those in various university departments, external agencies and vendors. The job requires blending into the Brenau community and independently keeping abreast of interesting happenings. Candidates must have an outstanding, versatile portfolio that demonstrates an understanding of light, moment-driven photography and storytelling imagery.

The job involves an intimate understanding of Canon DSLR platforms for shooting still and video imagery and obtaining quality audio with DSLR cameras and audio pre-amps. The work with high-end equipment ranges from "spot news" candid photography with available light at university events (including indoor and outdoor intercollegiate sports events) to staged shoots with studio lights. The ideal candidate will also have experience creating short-form documentary videos /slide shows on topics ranging from single events to unique feature stories. The multimedia Photographer/Editor will often create content specifically for outside media outlets, so the candidate must be well versed in standards across different media platforms. Since you will often be preparing material for direct dissemination to external media, excellent writing and proofreading skills are also required as well as proficiency in Associated Press writing style.
