Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Provost, the Dean will be chief executive and academic officer of one of the country's most comprehensive design colleges, uniquely situated within a highly ranked, globally engaged public research university and in one of the country's foremost design communities.

    The dean will build on the College's strong foundation and the momentum of ambitious campus and college strategic planning to move the College toward greater innovation, excellence, and sustained vitality. A hub for design-centered education, research, and collaboration within the University and beyond the campus, the College encompasses a full range of design disciplines, including apparel design, architecture, graphic design, housing studies, human factors/ergonomics, heritage preservation, interior design, landscape architecture, metropolitan design, product design, retail merchandising, and sustainable design.

    The dean will collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and a highly engaged alumni and professional community to enhance synergy among the College's diverse design disciplines; advance faculty excellence, diversity, and expanded local and global engagement; and co-design a strong integrative vision for the future. The ideal candidate will be visionary, inclusive, and entrepreneurial, with a deep respect for the transformative value of design and the ability to be a catalyst for creativity, innovation, problem-solving, and progress. Successful candidates will have a proven record of scholarly achievement commensurate with an appointment as a tenured professor at the University of Minnesota. Successful candidates also will be able to play a major administrative and strategic leadership role in a large, complex, public research university.
